In 1982, in addition to the Chevrolet K5 Blazer full-size SUV, another model of the same name was launched. It differed from the “big brother” in more compact dimensions, a spring-loaded front suspension, and a “passenger” interior. In 1990, the lineup was replenished with a five-door version. A similar car was sold under the name GMC Jimmy, and in 1991 a more expensive version of the car entered the market under the Oldsmobile brand.
The Chevrolet S-10 Blazer was equipped with native 2.0 (83 hp) and V6 2.8 (110 hp) engines, as well as Isuzu engines: 1.9-liter gasoline and 2.2-liter diesel. In 1985, the four-cylinder power units were replaced by a new “four” with a volume of 2.5 liters, and in 1988, instead of the previous six-cylinder engine, a new 4.3-liter engine with a capacity of 150-160 forces appeared. The SUV had versions with both full and rear-wheel drive.
In 1995, there was a change in generations of the SUV. The new Chevrolet Blazer retained the design of its predecessor, and its sales began in Europe and Asia. The model was offered with a three-door and five-door body, in addition, an Isuzu Hombre pickup truck was created on the basis of an SUV.
The only power unit in the US market was a 4.3-liter V6 gasoline engine with a capacity of 190–195 hp. With. As a result of restyling in 1997, the Blazer received an updated appearance. Sales of the car in the US market ended in 2005, it was replaced by the TrailBlazer.
In Brazil, until 2011, a version of the SUV was produced, which differs in design and technical stuffing. It was this Chevrolet Blazer that in 1996 began to be assembled using a “screwdriver” method in Yelabuga. The front-wheel drive modification of the car was equipped with a 2.2-liter engine (106 hp) and a five-speed “mechanics”, and the all-wheel drive modification was equipped with a 4.3-liter “six” (180 hp) and a four-speed automatic transmission.
